Signcraft recently delivered a suite of digital signage projects across Western Australia for JCDecaux, a global leader in outdoor advertising, showcasing their proficiency in complex design, fabrication, and installation processes while upholding top-tier quality standards.
One standout installation was a digital billboard on a gantry structure over Dunreath Drive at Perth Airport. This ambitious project required rigorous planning and collaboration with Perth Airport to secure essential permits and approvals. Signcraft’s team employed a range of technical measures, from ground scanning and precision excavation to crash barrier installation, all designed to maximise safety for motorists.
The project commenced with a comprehensive scanning and 3D mapping to ensure the development of precise structural models for the gantry and crash barriers. With all engineering approvals obtained, fabrication began on the 10-tonne framework, crafted to millimetre accuracy. Day and night shifts facilitated the installation, including road closures, to minimise disruption and ensure efficiency.
Ground scanning, precision excavation with vacuum excavators, and the installation of prefabricated reinforced cages and formwork for footings were among the critical elements. Over 40 cubic metres of concrete were used, solidifying the structure’s stability and resilience.
Installation demanded intricate rigging and crane work. The gantry’s two legs were first positioned on-site, followed by the digital screen and framework, all erected over three nights with the help of a 100-tonne crane. The final stages included cladding, electrical connections, and commissioning, marking the successful completion of this highly challenging project.
Signcraft’s accomplishment at Perth Airport underscores their expertise in executing large-scale, safety-focused installations within stringent timeframes and regulatory frameworks, setting a new benchmark for digital signage innovation in Australia.
